Prozac side effects

ProzacProzac has only some side effects if compared to any other anti-depressant drugs. These side effects may include dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, sedation, and weight gain. Prozac is also associated with Abnormal dreams, abnormal ejaculation, abnormal vision, anxiety, diarrhea, diminished sex drive, headache, impotence, insomnia, itching, loss of appetite, nausea, nervousness, rash, sinusitis, sleepiness, sore throat, sweating, tremors, upset stomach, vomiting, weakness, yawning.

Side effects are usually not permanent and could disappear as body of the person adjusts to taking the drug.

One of possible Prozac side effects that remain during the period of time medicine is taken is its effect on sex side of life. It often reduces libido or sex drive and can delay or interfere with orgasm, in both women and men. About 11 % of patients has reported this symptom. Fatigue and memory loss are other possible problems. These side effects disappear after the person stop taking the medicine.

As Prozac has a long half-life, extreme symptoms of withdrawal are uncommon. In case of abrupt discontinuation of fluoxetine patient can experience vertigo/light-headedness, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, abdominal cramps, increased or strange dreams, chills, agitation and anxiety. If you plan to take any MAO inhibitor you have to allow 5 weуks or more between stopping Prozac and starting an MAO inhibitor.

Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication. You should not drink any caffeine as well. Taking alcohol or caffeine may affect the way Prozac works or increase the risk of side effects.
